Having inherited from my predecessor one big Dell box that is largely unutilized, acting only as a Windows file server when I arrived last year, it was a challenge on how to maximize the company's investment on this machine. I was looking at using VMWare before but I haven't made up my mind yet on what to use.

I am looking for a simple to implement and simple to manage virtual server on top of the existing Windows Server installed on the Dell machine.

Despite lots of things being implemented left and right for the Manor since I came on board, the plan of using a virtual server is always at the back of my mind.  Today, I found time to implement it. I am happy to announce that we have started the use of virtualization technology at The Manor. After tests are proven to be successful, this will enable us to run various applications that we are in dire need such as a directory service for centralized user managementon on a separate resource space.

We are currently evaluating Sun Microsystem's VirtualBox version 1.6.0. Other than the need for me to find out how the virtual server can communicate on the host network, VirtualBox seems to be an excellent piece of software.
