HIS Philippines made the right move last January, 2008 by sending a specialist from Malaysia to The Manor at Camp John Hay to discuss and resolve mounting concerns related to the Squirrel POS System and its proper integration with HIS Epitome Property Management System.

Andy Figueroa, Technical Manager of HIS Philippines and Hu Mien Ng (Vivian) from Softbrands (Malaysia) very recently visited the Manor to work with the IT Department on resolving the issues presented.

A new windows-based (VB) Squirrel Interface was installed, which provides a lot of improvement from the old DOS-based IPU/UMM interface. It is projected to fix concerns related to lost postings. One significant advantage of this interface is that it no longer requires to be turned-off or turned-on prior to running the Night Audit procedure. Also, as Vivian explained, if the Interface detects that there is a problem with the transfer of data such as when it receives garbage information, it will restart itself automatically to fix the problem. Further, full control of this program is now under the responsibility of the IT Department, freeing Front Desk from worrying about it any time of the day.

Other concerns related to Squirrel were also addressed such as reporting and printing concerns. We also discussed Manor's special requirement which is not similar to typical hotels, mainly due to our unique relationship with Chef Billy King's Le Chef at the Manor, a first-class restaurant operating inside The Manor at Camp John Hay.
